For Christmas every year my great grandmother used to make this vanilla pound cake with Chocolate icing. I was the best cake I'd ever had. I figured it was my turn to learn how to make it. We have had so many people ask for the recipe. This is a cake that with so moist, delicious and perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. I did not come up with this recipe. This is a recipe from Jack and Vera Nance in the Union Cross Moravian Church Cookbook.
The Cake
First you need to set out the butter the eggs and the sour cream to let it get it to room temperature. After that sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together. Once that is done, set it aside and creme the butter and sugar together. It does not matter if you use a hand mixer or a stand mixer, but from what I have seen, it makes less of a mess to use a stand mixer. Then alternate adding in 2 eggs and the flour. After all 6 eggs and the flour is mixed in, add vanilla and mix. Once all of this is mixed fold in with a spatula the sour cream. Grease and flour a bundt cake pan and then pour the batter into the pan. You can use either butter or crisco to grease the pan. Put the pan into a cold oven and turn it to 325. Cook for 1 1/2 hours. It is extremely important that you do not open the oven for the first hour at all. Doing so will make the cake not rise as well as it should. Take the cake out and let it cool for a few minutes.
The Icing
First, melt a stick of butter, then melt a bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips. Pour the butter into the chocolate chips and add half and half. and confectioners sugar.
